Spain is both the most biodiverse country in Europe and the continent’s most vulnerable place (WWF).

WWF. Association for the Defence of Nature

In its Living Planet Report 2022

Indicators on the state of Spain’s biodiversity and natural heritage show that the country is continuing to lose biodiversity. The sustainable conservation and restoration of habitats, ecosystems and species is our main ally in the fight against climate change.

Our goals are:

  • To protect and restore ecosystems
  • To value the diversity and functions of ecosystems in the fight against climate change, given that ecosystems store CO2 and support life.
  • To implement sustainable management models and promote spaces that will support biodiversity over a long period of time.
  • To publicise and disseminate the importance of carrying out conservation and improvement initiatives to protect and restore natural areas

Collaboration with Xarxa for Nature Conservation

In 2022 we made the first donation to purchase land in Pobla de Claramunt (Barcelona). The creation of one of the most important arboretums in Catalonia is planned on this land, helping to safeguard the agronomic, genetic and gastronomic heritage of the area.

In 2024, the first 1,000 trees will have been planted (of the 1,300 planned), where there are more than 250 ancient fruit varieties at risk of disappearance, of high quality and at the same time with great capacity to adapt to climate change. In addition, a drop irrigation system and a 140 m3 pond have been installed to guarantee irrigation in case of drought.

At the same time, the soil structure has been improved, decompacting in depth to promote water retention and the development of tree roots, and a hunting fence has been installed to protect fruit trees from deer and wild boars, but It does allow the passage of birds, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals.
